Smoking Grass and health problems and some advice
Just heard on the dutch radio that smoking grass is bad for your health. You can become psychotic and develop a huge number of mental disorders, which doesn't make you a happier person. The problem seems to be that "the decease" actually lasts for 40 or 50 years, with a slim chance of curing. A lot worse than the about 5 years it takes to die from smoking tabacco (what happened to chewing that stuff?).
I am far from medical and my next statement is not based on scientific research, it's just plain and simple the truth :
If you smoke grass, smoke it alone!
The problem is not that you smoke (although too much is just too much), but who you smoke it with. This probably needs some explenation to really convince all of you :)
When you smoke, stuff happens in your mental state. Your perception of the world changes and you are open to anyone else (hope that is the effect though, since barfing isn't really the intention of smoking).
So what you might say.
Since you are open to everyone else, you pick up all shit that people are currently facing. (if you are in a coffee shop, have a look around and you see some people must be facing a lot of misery).
When you "sober" up, you cannot identify the miserable feeling you have as not being yours and you decide that it must be you that suffers so much (although you don't have a clue why). You can recover from it, but if you smoke too much in company, you get in a permanent state of misery, which can cause psychoses (33 percent of the people needing mental help is smoking).
As I said before : smoke alone, or don't smoke, since you never know what problems your going to end up with.
Btw reletively less people are smoking grass in holland then in the US (and 3 other countries that were researched), even though its legal to buy grass over here! A cheer for freedom (btw coffee shops cannot legally buy grass, but they are allowed to sell it, how the hell do you want to explain that to foreigners..)

hi
i read your thoughts. i have just ended a relationship with a man who smoked this stuff. around him, if he didnt smoke, he was nice company. but once he smoked-his character changed-more moody, paraniod and miserable...this is negative and i can't understand why people feel the need to indulge in what is obviously very bad for them. i believe this drug to have a negative effect on those who smoke it-it gives a false sense of security and as you said opens up the psychy to others issues! god what is good about that? its very sad to see those we care for attempt to blow their minds with this stuff...the truth is that they simply cannot face the truth of their lives or their pain...drugs offer escapism....where for a short time.....their problems are kept at bay....
please write back

Hi,
I just found this article with a google search, since I want to stop smoking tobacco. However, I have to respond to what has been said about 'grass' in this thread.
PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE MAKING BS STATEMENTS!
Many of the happiest people in my life have been smoking 'grass' for more than 10 years. It is not escapism, and well, I don't feel like arguing. Just please, get an informed opinion (that covers both sides). And, I have never heard of the "huge number of mental disorders". Please. Sounds like propaganda.
cheers!
Irie!
btw. I won't be coming back, so dont bother answering. Just go read some info on MJ.
Hi Irie,
Reading is an art too.
1) this blog is not meant for you
2) You don't live in Holland where you have coffee shops
3) Take your own advice
4) Never seen real happy people smoking in a coffee shop
Try smoking alone and with people you don't know in eg a coffee shop and see the difference..
If you cannot see the difference ask a close friend if he/she noticed any difference..
I use to smoke pot and only gave it up because it's illeagle and my ex i'm back with has a 14 year old boy.Butt in it's defence it searves a whole lot of good purposes, one it lowers your blood pressure, how who cares, it calms nearves and bad stomachs which no pill has ever done for me,and pills have bad side effects. The air we breath without the pot and cigarettes isn't even good for us.Everybody acts differently to different things but it's not fair to discredit something just because it has an adverse effect on some people. Some people shouldn't smoke pot and some people shouldn't drink alcohol.I had to make sure this was written right so no one could say that pot has burnt my brain. And yes I got along with people in Bars, work(sandwich deliver)and coffee shops.after i had smoked. If the government could find a way to tax it for eveybodys use i'm sure it would be leagl now.Just had to say my peace
hi im 11 years old and i smoked grass 3 times . i read your internet page and now i will never do it again.
I realize this is not my blog but you haven't prevented me from posting so here are my thoughts. I really have a problem when people chose to say that another's cherished activity is bad or harmful or can make one psychotic. Especially when statements are made aphoristically with no scientific evidence. Its true, everything that that radio program said, however statements like that tend to color the facts too much.
First of all smoking is bad for you. However if one smokes a small amount of herb moderately it has far less ill effects than even secondhand cigarette smoking. Cigarettes have chemicals added to them to make you addicted to them and that are harmful preservatives that are carcinogenic when burned. Anyway smoking isn’t ideal, but in Holland large amounts of people smoke, much more than in the us.
There is no "decease" associated with smoking cannabis. Normal respiratory problems can occur, but in a healthy person there should be no long term mental or health problems other than those normally associated with smoking. Psychotic behavior rarely occurs as a result of smoking cannabis. The reason the "psychotic" argument come sup a lot is because there is a case of a boy with Down's syndrome who became psychotic after smoking cannabis. However, a person with Down's syndrome is much more susceptible to mental disorders due to the mental condition they were born with. Simply stated: persons with mental disorders may react badly to cannabis just as they might react badly to alcohol.
Finally, the people you meet in coffee shops. Well think about why they are in the coffee shop smoking and not at home sharing a spliff with a friend in their living room. I hate to be so generalist but people who spend their smoking time in only coffee shops seem kind of detached from their communities and so seek in that environment. But not all people that smoke cannabis are in their same situation.
In conclusion: pot smokers are regular people. Regular people are good and bad, are exuberant or depressive, are motivated or down in the dumps. The only difference with herb smokers is they smoke herb. Just because you see some bad examples of individuals who smoke cannabis please don't assume that everyone who smokes is paranoid schizophrenic or antisocial. Many smokers are respectable members of society such as the current mayor of New York who openly admits that he tried cannabis in his youth and that he enjoyed it very much.
".the truth is that they simply cannot face the truth of their lives or their pain...drugs offer escapism....where for a short time.....their problems are kept at bay....please write back"
Hmm, I think this is an over-generalization, for me smoking helps stimulate and channel my atistic and musical abilities. Smoking is many different things to many different people. Also for me smoking is a time when I engage in self reflection and self examination, I unplug from the high speed globalized world in order to deal with myself constructively. One could more easily criticize drinkers for their dependance on alcohol as escapism, alcohol provides little stimulation for self evalation. It is hurtful to the total population of smokers to make such a general statement.
i just have to say one thing it wrecks lives
ik rook dus wel gras, maar is het nou schadelijk of niet?
